Create Your Bouquet

We’ll begin by working through the main shapes of the artwork before gradually building the flowers, leaves and foliage that give the bouquet its character.

Rather than trying to create technically perfect flowers, we’ll focus on simple shapes, loose brushstrokes and layers of colour.

You’ll learn how different shades of pink can be layered together to create depth and how a few simple highlights and shadows can transform basic shapes into beautiful blooms.

Then we’ll add the foliage.

We’ll guide you through creating the rounded shape of the vase before gradually adding those statement stripes.

Don’t worry about making every line perfectly straight or every stripe identical.

In fact, those little differences are what give a hand-painted artwork its personality.

The graphic black-and-white design is also a great way to experiment with contrast and see how a simple pattern can completely transform a painting.

Bring the Background to Life With Colour

Once your flowers and vase begin taking shape, we’ll turn our attention to the background.

We’ll guide you through the painting one stage at a time, from establishing the main shapes through to adding the flowers, foliage, stripes, colour and final details.

You don’t need to know how to draw flowers before you arrive.

You don’t need to understand colour theory.

And you definitely don’t need to be “good at art.”

The aim is to give you enough guidance to feel confident while still allowing you to enjoy experimenting with the painting yourself.

Sometimes an unexpected brushstroke or slightly wonky stripe ends up becoming someone’s favourite part of their artwork.
