Coastal Whimsy – 3D Mixed Media Art Workshop

Looking for a creative experience that’s a little different from a traditional painting class?

Welcome to Coastal Whimsy, a beach-inspired 3D mixed media art workshop in Sydney where painting and dimensional coastal details come together to create a beautiful piece of textured wall art.

Inspired by clear blue water, rolling waves, warm sandy beaches and treasures collected along the shoreline, this relaxed workshop is all about slowing down, getting creative and making something you’ll genuinely want to display at home.

You’ll paint your own peaceful coastal scene before transforming it with beautiful 3D shells, starfish and seaside embellishments.

And you don’t need to consider yourself an artist to join us.

We’ll guide you through each stage, so beginners are absolutely welcome.

Paint Your Own Coastal Escape

Your artwork begins on a 30×40 cm art panel, giving us a strong surface for creating your dimensional coastal design.

You’ll start by building your beach scene with layers of rich ocean blue, turquoise water, soft white waves and warm sandy tones.

We’ll show you how to blend the different shades of the ocean and create simple breaking waves as they move towards the shoreline.

The painting has intentionally been designed to be achievable rather than overly detailed.

You’ll have plenty of opportunity to experiment with your colours and add your own personality while still being able to relax and enjoy the creative process.

Once your painted beach begins to take shape, it’s time for the part that makes Coastal Whimsy different from a traditional painting workshop.

Bring Your Beach to Life in 3D

Now we’ll add the mixed-media elements.

You’ll receive a selection of specially prepared 3D coastal embellishments, including beautiful shells and starfish, to incorporate into your artwork.

You’ll be able to paint and personalise your pieces before experimenting with their placement along your shoreline.

Arrange them together in a little collection, spread them naturally across the sand or create your own completely different composition.

Once you’re happy with your design, you’ll attach the dimensional pieces to your art panel to complete your coastal scene.

The combination of acrylic painting and raised seaside elements gives the finished artwork depth, texture and personality that you simply don’t get from a standard canvas painting.

It’s part painting, part craft and part home décor.

Make It Your Own

Your finished Coastal Whimsy artwork doesn’t need to look exactly like ours.

That’s part of the fun.

Choose your own shades of blue.

Make your water turquoise and tropical or use deeper ocean tones. Create gentle waves or a more dramatic shoreline. Change the positioning of your shells and starfish or experiment with the colours of your dimensional pieces.

Our sample mixed media artwork will be there for inspiration, and we’ll guide you throughout the session, but we want your finished piece to feel like your coastal escape.

We’ll break the artwork into manageable stages and show you how to build your ocean, waves and sandy shoreline before moving onto positioning and attaching your 3D elements.

You don’t need to know how to blend paint, create waves or work with mixed-media materials before you arrive.

We’ll show you.
