Zentangle Art Workshop for Kids – School Holiday Workshop in Tallawong
Discover the Relaxing Art of Zentangle
Looking for a creative school holiday workshop in Tallawong designed especially for older kids and young teens?
Welcome to our Zentangle Art Workshop, a special artist-led experience within Colourful Wine Creative School Holidays for young creatives aged 9–14 years.
In this interactive two-hour workshop, children will discover Zentangle® — an easy-to-learn and relaxing method of creating beautiful images using structured patterns known as “tangles”.
Led by guest artist Rezwana Bashir, participants will learn how simple lines, shapes and repeated patterns can gradually be transformed into an intricate piece of artwork.
Rather than focusing on drawing something perfectly, Zentangle encourages children to slow down, experiment and enjoy the creative process. One of the key ideas behind the method is that there are no mistakes — only new creative opportunities.
During the workshop, each participant will create the detailed Zentangle feather artwork shown in our promotional image. Once completed, their artwork will be presented in a frame, ready to take home and proudly display.
No previous drawing or artistic experience is required.
Our studio is conveniently located in Tallawong, making this a great school holiday activity for families from Rouse Hill, Schofields, Riverstone, Kellyville, Box Hill, The Ponds, Marsden Park and surrounding areas of Sydney’s north-west.
What Children Will Create
Each participant will create a detailed patterned Zentangle feather artwork during the workshop.
Starting with the feather design, children will gradually work through different sections, filling them with a variety of structured patterns, lines and shapes.
They’ll learn how seemingly simple marks can be repeated and combined to create an artwork that looks beautifully intricate.
During the creative process, participants will explore:
- structured Zentangle patterns
- different styles of line work
- repeated shapes and designs
- shading for depth and texture
- pattern placement
- creative decision-making
- finishing techniques
The artwork shown in our promotional image is the actual project participants will create during the session.
Once their artwork is complete, it will be placed into a frame, transforming their drawing into a finished piece that’s ready to display at home.
Beginner-Friendly Zentangle Art Workshop
No previous drawing, Zentangle or artistic experience is needed.
This workshop has been designed especially for ages 9–14 and is 100% suitable for complete beginners.
Rezwana will guide participants through the process step by step, introducing the core techniques before helping them gradually develop their feather artwork.
One of the wonderful things about Zentangle is that children don’t need to worry about creating the “perfect” drawing.
Instead, they’re encouraged to work with the marks they make, explore different patterns and trust their own creative intuition.
During the workshop children will:
- learn core Zentangle techniques
- explore structured pattern drawing
- practise line work
- discover simple shading techniques
- create depth and texture
- develop concentration and patience
- build confidence in their creative decisions
- complete a beautiful framed artwork
Children who already enjoy drawing can develop their patterns further, while beginners can confidently work through the project with guidance.

Why Parents Will Love This Workshop
The Zentangle Art Workshop offers something a little different from a traditional children’s painting or craft class.
Children aren’t simply copying a finished picture. Instead, they learn how to construct a detailed artwork gradually using individual patterns and creative choices.
The structured nature of Zentangle can encourage children to slow down and focus on one section at a time while still allowing plenty of room for individual creativity.
Creative drawing activities can also help children:
- develop fine motor control
- practise concentration
- explore pattern and design
- strengthen creative problem-solving
- build confidence
- practise patience
- express their individual creativity
- enjoy quality screen-free time
And at the end of the workshop, they’ll have something substantial to show for their time — a finished, professionally presented framed artwork they can proudly display at home.

Why Choose Colourful Wine Creative School Holidays?
At Colourful Wine Art Café & Bar, we believe school holidays are a wonderful opportunity for children and teens to explore new creative experiences.
Our Colourful Wine Creative School Holidays program brings together a variety of hands-on workshops designed for different ages, interests and creative abilities.
Rather than offering the same activity every day, we’ve created a program where young artists can explore different materials, techniques and projects throughout the holidays.
The Zentangle Art Workshop is particularly special because it introduces our older children and young teens to a more detailed art technique under the guidance of a guest artist.
With all materials supplied and a maximum of 16 participants per session, young artists can enjoy a welcoming creative environment while completing an artwork they’ll be proud to take home.

Why Creative Activities Matter
Creative activities give children opportunities to experiment, make decisions and develop ideas independently.
Pattern drawing in particular requires children to concentrate on small sections of a larger artwork, gradually building a finished design through repeated lines, shapes and details.
The process can encourage patience, concentration, fine motor control and creative confidence while providing an enjoyable break from screens and everyday routines.
